As Husband

Ephesians 5:25

love…

I used to read Ephesians 5:25 and fantasize about all the possible heroic deeds I could do to “give myself up for Jamie”. I imagined myself fighting valiantly against some bad force and saving her. Extra bonus points if I saved her and the kids. But as I walked with Christ more and more, He showed me over and again that “giving myself up” needs to first happen in the everyday things, things that sometimes go unnoticed, things that often go unrewarded. He showed me that this life is not a game, and there are no points. Instead, this life is summation of millions of small acts. I needed to focus on those small acts and show love over and over again in ways that sometimes unnatural for me.

I used to read Ephesians 5:25 and skip over the part where it says, “as Christ loved the church”. I wasn’t exactly sure what that meant. Do I die for my wife? Yes. Yes, die everyday. Everyday, I need to loosen my prideful grip on my heart and hold tighter on the heart that Jamie and I share.

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
